Marking the 550th birth anniversary of the Sikh guru, Guru Nanak, the corridor will be inaugurated in November next year. This decision has been taken to allow people from India to visit Kartarpur Sahib, a gurudwara in Pakistan, that holds high religious importance for the Sikhs, hassle free.

The corridor will be built from the Gurdaspur border till the international border, and it will be fully functional in a year with all the amenities required to make the journey comfortable. In fact, President Ram Nath Kovind and Punjab chief minister CM Amarinder Singh will lay the first stone of the work today. And President Imran Khan will do the same on the other side on November 28th.

Customs facilities, and visa requirements will be drafted out soon to keep the process going, and ensuring everything moves smoothly.

Two cabinet ministers, one of them is Punjab’s minister Navjot Singh Sidhu will attend the Kartarpur corridor ceremony in Pakistan this week, making it another groundbreaking moment. Pakistan has invited them over, and it only looks like a positive step towards the future of both the countries.

Guru Nanak stayed in Kartarpur for over 18 years, and is believed to have taken his last breath there; hence the place is of great significance for the Sikh community. After the partition, a lot of Sikhs have been unable to visit the iconic gurudwara, and this corridor is definitely a step towards the right direction.
