You must be aware that travelling to foreign countries often requires a visa and specific documents. However, did you know that certain places in India also require legitimate permission to visit? The Inner Line Permit (ILP) system is in place to protect tribal regions and sensitive border areas of India. From majestic mountains and high-altitude lakes to secluded islands and snow-covered passes, these destinations are regulated by travel permits, also known as ILPs. Here’s everything you need to know about the Indian destinations that even Indians require an Inner Line Permit to visit.

What is an Inner Line Permit (ILP)?

An Inner Line Permit, issued by the Government of India, allows Indian citizens to travel into protected states and restricted areas. Residents living outside these areas must obtain an ILP to enter. This system helps regulate movement, particularly near the international borders of India.
