A short drive from Palitana takes you to the peaceful Gopnath Beach near Gadhula village. Located on the coast of the Gulf of Khambat, Gopnath once served as the summer home of Bhavnagar’s Maharaja Kumar Singh. You can revisit the rich history of Gopnath at the colonial mansion built by the ruler in the 1940s. The mansion also serves as a heritage hotel and offers a luxurious stay. You can also visit the 700-years-old Gopnath Mahadev Temple.

In the heart of the Western Ghats, Saputara is popular as Gujarat’s only hill station. Covered in lush greenery and often referred to as ‘nature’s womb’, it is a sight to behold. When here, visit the gorgeous Gira Waterfalls, and go boating on the serene Lake Saputara, which is surrounded by gardens. The Saputara Tribal Museum is close to the lake and offers a window into the rich culture of the Dang tribe. Just a few kilometres away, the Artist Village sells tribal artwork and handicrafts.

If you are looking forward to a natural escapade, look no further than Polo Forest. One of the best-kept secrets of Gujarat, Polo Forest is a sheer delight for campers and trekkers. Sequestered in a dense forest and tucked between sacred hills, the place used to serve as a hiding spot for rulers. Ruins of ancient temples and fortifications still stand to tell Polo Forest’s story. When here, you can also explore quaint little tribal settlements and learn about their relationship with forests. Apart from some nice trekking trails, Polo Forest also offers birdwatching opportunities.

Located near Vadinar, Narara Island is a part of the Marine National Park. The island is blessed with rich marine life. Prior permission from the Conservator of Forests, Jamnagar is needed to visit the island. When here, expect to come across beautiful sea creatures like starfish, jellyfish, octopus, and crabs, among others. Hire a guide, who will take you to the middle of the sea during low tide.

Ninai Waterfall

Located in Narmada district’s Dediapada taluka, the enchanting Ninai Waterfall makes for a refreshing one-day getaway from Bharuch. The beautiful route from Bharuch takes you through gentle river streams and barnyard millet farms. The route includes Ankleshwar, Valia, Netrang, Dediapada, and Sagai. Cascading from a height of more than 30 feet the waterfalls lie in the forest ranges near the Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Navlakha Temple

Built by Jethwa rulers in the 11th century, this temple is dedicated to the Sun God. The temple confirms the Maru-Gurjara style of architecture. It’s believed to be Gujarat’s oldest sun temple. It is also believed that the temple is called Navlakha temple because of the amount of money that went into its construction. The temple features intricately carved stone sculptures and ruins from the Solanki period. There is a 10th century-smaller shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha, that stands adjacent to the main temple.

Pirotan Island

If you want to alienate yourself from the hustle-bustle of city life, the desolated Pirotan Island is the place to be, where you can also spot some of the world’s most exotic creatures. This is a famous tourist attraction as it houses some rare coral reefs such as the finger coral, moon coral, brain coral, etc. Located 10km from Jamnagar, the island is situated in the Gulf of Kutch. Armed with some prior knowledge, you can spend hours walking around the tidal flats at low tide, observing the fascinating marine life. 

Wankaner

The erstwhile princely state of Wankaner will surprise you with its incredible built heritage. The prime attraction here is the grand Ranjit Villas Palace. Located at the Gadhio Hilltop, the palace was constructed by Maharana Raj Shri Amar Singh. The palace stands as a great specimen of the Indo-Gothic style of architecture and dates to 1907. Another heritage property that promises a memorable vacation in Wankaner is Royal Oasis, built during the 1920s. The property features art deco-style interiors and a three-storied stepwell.

Girmal Waterfall

Located in Girmal village in the Dang district, this is Gujarat’s highest waterfall. The pristine fall is sequestered amidst the Purna Wildlife Sanctuary. Falling from a height of 100 feet, the waterfall serves as a tranquil picnic spot. On your way to the waterfall, spot at the U-turn Restaurant run by the Eco-Development Committee of the forest department for spectacular views of the waterfall and the lush forest that surrounds it. You may also club your visit with Subir village.
