Manali is the perfect blend of tranquillity and adventure. The hill station offers some of the most stunning views of snow-capped mountains, along with an insight into the mountain life. The hill station has the best of all worlds, and its ethereal beauty has a raw charm, even though it is a popular tourist destination throughout the year. With a cool breeze and snow-capped peaks, Manali makes for the perfect destination for couples, families and even solo travellers.

The destination itself is a calm, tranquil spot, but the places around it – filled with history and culture – are what make Manali all the more inviting for visitors. So, in case you are planning to visit this breathtaking destination in Himachal Pradesh, these are the places you must see!

Places to visit in Manali to make the most of your trip

Hidimba Temple

Among the most popular tourist attractions in Manali is Hadimba (or Hidimba) temple. The temple is dedicated to Hidimba Devi, Bheem’s (one of the five Pandava brothers) wife. Built by Raja Bahadur Singh in 1553, the temple is a four-storeyed structure in Van Vihar, a dense forest.

What makes the temple different is its architecture. The structure is built unlike traditional Hindu temples, and has almost a home-like feel to it. Located on the premises is also a shrine dedicated to Ghatotkach, the son of Hidimba and Bheem.

Rohtang Pass

Among the best places to visit when in Manali is Rohtang Pass. The place, a few kilometres away from the main city of Manali, is mostly surrounded by snow, and makes for plenty of fun activities such as snowboarding and biking.

The route to Rohtang Pass is mostly covered with inches of thick snow, and make you feel like you’re in wonderland, or maybe a movie, like Jab We Met, portions of which were shot here!

Solang Valley

Another stunning place to visit in Manali is Solang Valley. Nestled between the Beas Kund and Solang Village, the valley boasts of some stunning views of snow-capped mountains and lush greenery. The place is also great for adventure activities such as treks and paragliding, and is sure to make your trip to Manali worth the while!

Old Manali is a charming destination in Manali. Like the name suggests, the old city will give you the vintage charm that you’re looking for in the hills. Sip on some hot chai or indulge in yummy maggi noodles as you gaze out into the horizon or unwind with a book. If nothing else, take a walk down the many bylanes here, and explore the destination on foot.

Named after Rishi Vashishtha, the village of Vashisht houses the temple dedicated to the sage. Legend suggests that he was depressed upon learning about the death of his children at the hands of Guru Vishwakarma, and this village is the place he started a new life at. The temple, said to be over 4,000 years old, is a stunning structure with decorated wooden carvings and antique paintings and figures.
