Sikkim is one of the few states in India that has managed to stay untouched from the Coronavirus pandemic. In its efforts to continue to keep this virus at bay, Sikkim closes borders till October 2020. By Kumar Shree

While many have raised concern over the minimal testing in Sikkim, out of the 81 tests that it has done, all have tested negative, thus making the state untouched by the Coronavirus pandemic. As of now, Nagaland is also free of COVID-19 as after reporting its first case, the patient was moved to Assam for treatment.
Ganga Prasad, Governor of Sikkim, states that the decision to close the state borders has been taken for the wellbeing of the people of the state, which has a population of around seven lakhs. The state government is also ensuring proper care of the migrant labours stuck in the state and is providing them with food and money for survival. The government also promises to put these labours back to jobs once the lockdown is over.

Prasad also talked about the students studying in China. He said, those students returned to the state in January 2020 and the state borders were sealed shortly after. These students were then kept under quarantine as standard procedure and were not let out until they were tested negative after the prescribed duration of the quarantine. These strategies have helped ensure the safety of the state. Throughout this time, Sikkim Chief Minister PS Goley and Governor Ganga Prasad have held multiple meetings and they have also discussed the matter with the Central Government for suggestions and guidelines.
