7 Luxury Honeymoon Destinations for the Mountain-Loving Couple

If an insatiable love for the mountains is one of the arrows Cupid shot at you and your beau, there’s no remedy other than spending your most special time together as a couple amidst towering peaks. And that is your honeymoon. By Shubhanjana Das

With just the right amount of luxury to pamper you and your beloved, these places strike the right chord when it comes to being the ideal destination for a mountain-loving couple to start off their nuptial bond on a ‘high’ note!

1. South Lake Tahoe, California

When you imagine your ideal honeymoon destination in the mountains, do you picture a lake, towering mountains offering multiple skiing stretches, and a lively culture? Lo and behold! We bring to you Heavenly Valley in South Lake Tahoe, which is the largest ski area in the U.S. The place offers an amazing mixture of the pristine natural beauty of the mountains and the oh-so-beautiful lake along with casinos that light up after the sun goes down. Absolute perfection.

2. Wengen, Switzerland

Everyone who has ever seen pictures of Switzerland knows that it is the closest we can get to know what heaven must look like. For a mountain-loving couple who likes rustic and quaint more than the modern and new, Wengen is a little mountainous haven tucked in the Bernese Oberland region in Switzerland. The mountain village will stun you with the natural luscious green splashed across its vistas of towering peaks. Once you are done drooling over the traditional Swiss Alpine timber chalet architecture, hop on to the Jungfraubahn railway, which takes you to Jungfrau summit to witness views from the Sphinx Observation Deck. If that wasn’t enough already, the cable cars at Wengen are there for you to see how it must be to look at the natural wonders of Wengen from the top.

3. Courchevel, France

So, you are a mountain-loving couple who takes their expeditions and getaways very seriously. You aren’t fooling around and look for only the best places when it comes to a rendezvous with the mountains. We get it. So, we think Courcheval in France may be the place you are looking for. Courchevel is a cluster of five distinct villages and is situated high in the French Alps. The ski resort here is part of the world’s largest linked ski area, Les Trois Vallées. Choose the best accommodation that the place has to offer and experience what true bliss feels like, perhaps while soaking in a spa.

4. Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada

Before you could even plan the perfect honeymoon in a mountain destination, Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada already had it set for you. After all, which mountain-loving couple won’t like (read: love) a small pedestrian town encircling the mountain with quaint little shops and restaurants, dotted with a few grand hotels and resorts, which are waiting to welcome guests. The place has strategically placed fire pits so that you never feel too cold to come out of your room and soak in the unadulterated view of the magnificent Mont-Tremblant.

5. Jammu and Kashmir, India

There is no metaphor or simile that could do justice to Jammu and Kashmir, a place whose name sounds like poetry to the ears of mountain-lovers. A honeymoon in Jammu and Kashmir spent lying back in a shikara on the Dal Lake, watching the sun go down the snow-clad Himalayas, makes for a story that is fit to tell your grandkids. The tulip garden, frozen lakes, Kashmiri Wazwan, and authentic pashmina – Jammu and Kashmir will never run of things to charm its visitors with.

6. Hallstatt, Austria

If your honeymoon plan in the mountains includes doing nothing, you need to book your tickets to Hallstatt in Austria. It’s nothing special, though. Just the awe-inspiring Lake Hallstatt, the sublime Dachstein Mountains and Alpine wilderness that is the thing of dreams. A gondola ride up to Hoher Dachstein, which allows the view of Halsatt or the pastel-coloured houses, even the secretive paths to the world’s oldest salt mine, none of this compares to your existing plan. One look at this place and you will thank yourselves for taking that flight to Hallstatt.

7. Dolomites, Italy

Italy doesn’t shy away from proudly boasting of its opulent natural beauty. It is evident when one looks at the Dolomites in Italy – the place will bring you two closer with the romance that the air breathes into you. The place is punctuated by small resort towns, all of which overlook the grey Rocky Mountains and sprawling meadows. If you and your beau are the adventurous kinds, you can explore the hiking and trekking trails of different difficulty levels that this UNESCO World Heritage Site has in store.
