Who wouldn’t want their own private and remote island to jet off to, especially when it makes so much sense during these times when social distancing and masks are the new norms. Until recently, those of us with a shoestring budget could only dream of having one. But now, for just INR 39,107 a year you can rent an entire island in China. There are over 500 uninhabited islands in China’s Liaoning province that are just lying there, waiting to be rented out. For INR 39,107 a year, almost what we pay each month as rent in a metropolitan Indian city, you can now rent 2.5-acre of an island. We don’t think an island has ever been this affordable.
Out of all the islands in Liaoning province, 44 are inhabited whereas the rest as largely unspoiled and waiting to welcome civilisation. Home to the largest number of islands in Northern China, Liaoning’s capital Shenyang is 692 kilometres away from Beijing. While some of the islands are located off the coast in the Yellow Sea, others are peppered along the Yalu River, which lies near North Korea.

While some of the islands in the region are available for cheaper prices, others in the area are as high as INR 26,19,54,000. Now, if you are interested in renting an island here in Liaoning province in China keep in mind that you will need to do a bit more than just pay the rent. The government will require you to submit detailed plans of what you intend to do with the island, to make sure that the environment is protected by all means.
Any and all proposed projects by interested parties will need to fall within nine pre-approved categories that include tourism, fishing, agriculture and urban development. Some of the islands that are already inhabited in Liaoning are being used mainly for tourism and feature parks, manicured gardens and rock-lined beaches.
