Costes, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Budapest is just one among the many restaurants in the world that have been facing the brunt of the pandemic. The high-end restaurant has improvised its dining facilities to attract visitors during a time when tourism is down and people are generally afraid to step out of their homes into public spaces.

Costes in collaboration with the Budapest Eye, another public attraction that has barely received any visitors since lockdown was eased, has come up with a unique and exciting way for people to enjoy a good meal while maintaining social distancing. The restaurant is entertaining guests to their famous multi-course Michelin-starred offerings inside the cabins of a Ferris wheel.

The four-course meal costs around USD 155 (INR 11,564), and the tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime dinner opportunity are already sold out. While the restaurant is currently doing this as a one-month-long pop-up affair, the owners are keen to bring back the idea when the weather gets warmer in spring as well. “The Ferris wheel is ideal with its separate cabins so we can solve the issue of separate seating for guests,” said Costes’ owner Karoly Gerendai (as reported on Reuters).

Hungary has recently seen a spike in the overall COVID-19 numbers in the country, with an all-time high of 3,149 cases that was reported last week. As winter is around the corner, restaurants and bars are scrambling to figure out how to entertain guests while following the necessary guidelines. And, this unique dining strategy seems to be working already!
