Picture-perfect coastlines, turquoise blue waters, coconut and palm-fringed shores — these surely paint a pretty picture, doesn’t it? This is exactly what’s in store for travellers come August 1 as Seychelles is all set to reopen its borders.

The East-African archipelago announced the good news recently and mentioned that it would be restarting commercial flights to the island from next month onwards and that international visitors will be classified into ‘low’ and ‘medium’ risk zones.

Under the low-risk category, those arriving from Belgium, China, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, and Thailand will need to provide a negative Corona test within 72 hours of arrival. Canada, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, and Sri Lanka fall under medium risk, and passengers arriving from these countries will be expected to provide a negative Corona test result taken from the past three days of arrival. Additionally, visitors may also be required to take a Rapid Antigen test upon disembarkation.

It is still unclear if passengers from India, UK, US, and Australia will be allowed entry to the island, as they have not been specified under any category yet.

Resort hopping too has been prohibited and passengers will only be allowed to stay at a maximum of two accommodations/liveaboards during the first seven days of their stay on the island. The guidelines clearly state that no visitors will be permitted to stay at private residences. And, if any traveller is found staying at a place that is not a licensed and certified establishment, they will be shifted to one that is.

The island country has a meagre population of approximately 100,000 out of which a total of 108 Coronavirus cases were confirmed, in which 27 recovered (at the time of writing this article, July 23, 2020).
