The country’s National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has warned residents to not conduct any activities within five kilometres of the eruption radius, state reports. People are also being warned to stay at least 500 metres away from the riversides, to avoid the risk of lava flow. The eruption occurred about 800 kilometres from Jakarta.
Reports state that there’s no threat of a tsunami at the moment. However, there have been some monsoon rains, which have been mixing with volcanic ash as they fall. The volcanic eruption in Indonesia has caused alerts, but so far people are safe. The country is home to several other such volcanic mountains, and with this eruption, a closer watch will be kept on those as well.
Indonesia is a beautiful country, complete with mountains, beaches and activities for travellers. The destination is also a great one for adventure tourists and digital nomads to stay and work from.
