1. Basilique Notre Dame
It is no surprise that the Basilique Notre Dame tops our list! Unarguably one of the most famous spots in the city for tourists and locals alike, this cathedral is one mesmerising piece of art. Its stained glass and gold-adorned altar cast a spell on every visitor. Make sure to catch the light show inside the Basilica, which takes place every evening. This will surely be a highlight in your trip to Montreal.
2. Viuex Montreal
Popularly called Vieux Montreal by the locals, Old Montreal is definitely going to be your favourite hangout place after a day of going around the city. Dotted by both 19th and 20th Century architecture alongside skyscrapers, Old Town’s cobblestone streets and its French charm engulfs you. Make an advance booking for a free walking tour of Montreal that starts at 4:30 pm every day from Place Vauquelin for a better understanding of this city’s culture.
3. Le Viuex Port De Montreal
The old port of Montreal is a fantastic place for just strolling along the waterfront. You can rent ice skates during the winter for skating on the ice ring they make during the season. If you’re there during summer, trying your hands on zip-lining seems like a thrilling option. If neither, a boat tour always makes for a wonderful day-trip plan.
4. Try the Poutine and the Craft Beer
A Canadian favourite, this preparation can make ANY person drool just over the mention of it. With french fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy to go with, what’s not to like in this beauty? This poutine is best complemented and paired with the craft beers of Montreal from local brasseries and microbreweries. Patati Patata, Paulo and Suzanne, La Banquise for poutine and Broue Pub Brouhaha, Vices et Versa, Dieu de Ciel for craft beers are some undisputed favourites amongst locals.
5. Visit Habitat 67
Hands down one of the most intriguing architectural landmarks in Montreal, Habitat 67 is one of the most expensive real estates in the city. Unreachable by public transport, Habitat 67 can be explored during the boat trip of Montreal or if you hire a bike and ride around the city. It may be an engagement of a few minutes but is worth the effort.
6. Musee des Beaux-Arts de Montreal
The absolute must-stop for every art lover, the Museum of Arts in Montreal is home to paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, furniture, prints, drawings and photographs from centuries ago. While Rembrandt, Picasso and Monet carry a huge weight of the Museum’s reputation, it is the Canadian art showcased here that is the highlight.
7. Parc du-Mont Royal
The perfect definition of a day-off for the Canadians, The Parc-Du Mont Royal is one of the best places to be at during the weekends for this is where the city spends time outdoors. A small 200-m hike that is lovingly referred to as ‘the mountain’ offers the unhindered views of Montreal. Place a rug, grab some food and drinks, and be ready to witness the sun god own over Montreal.
