Masks have certainly become a part of our ‘new normal’ and there is no denying that. Until a viable vaccine has been found and administered to all people, wearing a mask is the least we can do to ensure safety and reduce the transmission rate.
Keeping this in mind, San-Francisco based tech giant Uber Technologies has added a new policy for their riders, wherein the latter will be required to fulfil the new ‘selfie with a mask’ rule before boarding an Uber. Basically, if a driver reports a passenger as not wearing a mask during the ride, the rider will be required to present a selfie the next time they call for an Uber.

This new policy is similar to the previous policy that the company had announced in May for Uber drivers, as a way of reassuring passengers of safety during their cab rides. This new rule has been brought about to make sure that riders take responsibility ensuring that drivers, too, feel safe while doing their jobs.
While the new policy is likely to be put into action in Canada and the US later this month, it will roll out in other parts of the world shortly after. The new policy is a part of Uber’s measures to rebuild trust and service after the number of trips took a fall owing to COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdowns across the globe.
Earlier in April, Uber India partnered with Bengaluru based e-health platform Medlife to provide door-step services to residents across Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Pune to deliver over-the-counter and prescription medicines amid the lockdown.
