India’s Tourism Ministry has launched Dekho Apna Desh (See Your Country), which allows you to virtually explore the country with its sessions on tourist spots, history and culture of different cities.  

“The webinar series discussions will be centred on tourism awareness and discovery alongside the popular understanding of a given site through the perspectives of both social history and tourism. To register click: https://bit.ly/DADWebSeries01,” the Ministry of Tourism tweeted, sharing links to webinars on Facebook and Instagram as well.

Ban on travel amid complete lockdown in order to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, has majorly affected the tourism industry. However, with this initiative, the Tourism Ministry of India is giving people an opportunity to not just virtually travel the country during quarantine, but to also gain in-depth knowledge about a particular destination, and the heritage of the country. 

Its first session City of Cities – Delhi’s Personal Diary that took place on April 14, comprised of interesting facts and anecdotes about the city and was also based on tourism awareness and social history. Conducted by India City Walks, the webinar witnessed a participation of over 5,000 people.

Its second webinar was on Kolkata and was called Calcutta – A Confluence of Cultures. Other than that, so far it has showcased — The Monuments of Mammallapuram – Stories Etched in Stone, World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism at Humayun’s Tomb, Ladakh – Explore the Unexplored, and Making India an Inclusive Travel Destination For All. Its next webinar — North East India – Experience the Exclusive Villages, is scheduled for April 24.

The webinar also reportedly covers monuments, cuisine, arts, dance forms, natural landscapes, festivals and other aspects of the Indian civilisation. You can register for the webinar on the Tourism Ministry’s social media handles @IncredibleIndia – on Instagram and Facebook.
