The 17th-century Ponden Hall located just outside Stanbury in West Yorkshire is every book lovers’ dream come true. The famed library here had served as a valuable resource and inspiration for the Brontë sisters and is widely accepted to be the inspiration for Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights and her sister Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
Imagine a large 5,000-square-feet stone farmhouse surrounded by moors, situated right next to a lake, opening up to the countryside, and accompanied by other houses located at a distance! Sounds straight out of a classic tale, right?

The historic house has nine bedrooms that have been skillfully renovated over 20 years and is currently run as an award-winning bed and breakfast frequented by literary fans from around the world. The most sought-after room at Ponden Hall is the current main guest bedroom, which features a mini single-paned window, that is said to be the inspiration behind the ‘ghost Cathy clawing at the glass’, in Wuthering Heights.
The present owners are now looking to sell the famous property in order to move to a smaller home, and have even reduced the asking price from the earlier £1.25 million (approx INR 11 crore), listed in 2019, reportedly to £1 million.
So, if a house with immense historic value, beautiful walled gardens, private courtyard and countryside location, is what you’ve always dreamt of, then this is the perfect time to make it yours.
