Travelling has always been an enriching experience, with unfamiliar places to explore, locals to meet, and delicacies to devour. But what’s better than trotting around the globe? It’s travelling lavishly! Five-star hotels embody luxury, and if you like living the good life, they are a requisite during trips.

While you spend your days discovering every nook and cranny of a new city, you deserve to spend your nights in splendour as well. Since your stay during these adventures acts as your home for a few days, it can make or break your experience. And, of course, every traveller deserves the crème de la crème.

Luxury Hotel carried out a research based on the most visited cities in the world to rank cities based on the cost of staying at a five-star hotel. For this, they analysed Euromonitor’s Top 100 City Destinations through Booking.com to count the number of hotels in those cities, and segregate the number of five-star hotels from the total count. They also probed into the cities with the cheapest five-star hotels.

Among the top 10 cities in the world that charge less than sky-high prices for a five-star luxury treatment, Chennai tops the list with an average cost of INR 3,511 per night. Third in place is Bengaluru, with an average of INR 4,234. Other Indian cities on the list are Agra, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur.

Other Asian cities include Johor Bahru in Malaysia, Phuket in Thailand, and Cebu in the Philippines. A trip to these destinations will ensure a splendid five-star experience without having to spend exorbitant amounts. For a voyage around Europe, head to Heraklion in Greece, which ranks as the cheapest luxury hotel stay with an average of INR 8,151 per night.

As for the cities with the highest percentage of five-star hotels, Abu Dhabi takes the lead with a whopping 32 per cent. Out of 146 hotels, 47 are deemed to be five-starred. The next four are the Chinese cities Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai and Zhuhai.

However, London has the maximum number of five-star hotels. Although it is ranked 18th on the list, 347 out of 5,057 hotels here are five-star stays.
