If you are planning a trip to Ladakh with your loved ones, these homestays in Leh come highly recommended. In some you will find traditional decor and some will offer authentic Ladakhi food and all of them promise beautiful views. The hosts are polite and welcoming. 8 homestays in Leh that promise absolute bliss

One of the most-loved homestays in Leh, Tukchu Homestay is run by the warm and hospitable Mr. Tashi and Mrs. Skarma Gyaltsen. The couple have renovated their 100-year-old ancestral home into a luxurious homestay. The bright and spacious rooms here offer incredible views of the apricot-dotted mountains of Leh.

The dining hall features traditional floor seating with attractive traditional tables. The pet-friendly homestay is located right below the Shanti Stupa. The hosts will also help you with taxis and route maps. Mr. Tashi has a great collection of books that you can read in the cosy and beautiful reading corner.

He’ll also enrich you with talks about the local history, culture, and traditions. Be ready to be welcomed by your hosts with a cup of hot ginger tea when you come back from a tiring day of sightseeing in Leh.

This popular luxury guest house in Leh offers well-furnished rooms that come with all modern comforts and conveniences. The family-run lodging is located a short 10-minute walk from the main market.

When here, expect absolute peace as you wake up to the mesmerizing views of the Stok Kangri, the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Zazkar Mountains. You can also see the majestic Shanti Stupa from the homestay. The host Mr. Stanzin is extremely helpful and will assist you with all logistical requirements.

Their rooms face the mountains and are tastefully decorated with wooden furnishings. They also offer uninterrupted hot water and Wi-Fi. The food is homely and delicious. Do ask them for Butter Tea. They have a well-equipped library too.

If you wish to stay away from the touristy hustle and bustle of Leh, this newly-opened homestay comes highly recommended. Nestled in the peaceful Shey village, a half and hour drive from Leh airport, Shel Homestay is a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary.

It is managed by photographer Hajra Ahmad, who comes with a lot of travel and wildlife experience. The beautiful homestay has two double  bedrooms and one twin bedroom. It sprawls across 15,000 sqft. The homestay overlooks lush grasslands, the stunning Himalayas, and the gurgling Indus River.

The Shey, Thiksey, and Matho monasteries are also visible from the property. Meals at Shey are superlative. From local delicacies like thukpas and skieu to evergreen north Indian fare like poha and briyani, they serve it all. Do try their chef’s special pepper chicken.

The quaint Namra Villa is one of the most sought-after luxury homestays in Leh. The property is a sheer delight for nature lovers. Treat your eyes with colourful native plants, trees, flowers, birds, and butterflies that thrive on Poplar and Willow trees.

The homestay also features lush apricot, apple, and walnut orchards, and fields that grow wheat and barley. You’d love their organic vegetable garden too. This property also provides great views of the Shanti Stupa and the Indus River flowing in all its glory.

They provide currency exchange, taxi services, a travel help desk, a doctor on call, free Wi-Fi, and other modern amenities. The gastronomical delights at the homestay include the popular puffed local bread called khambir.

If one of the reasons for your Leh trip is stargazing at night, we’d recommend a stay at Nyamshan House. Sequestered in the quaint Stok village, 17km from Leh, this family-run Eco homestay is all things blissful. The property was traditionally built in the 1960s. It took nine years to renovate it and has been running as a homestay since 2011.

The homestay introduces you to life in a typical Ladakhi village. From here, you can visit popular tourist spots like Stok Village, Great Buddha Statue, and Stok Monastery to name a few. When here, spend your time taking blissful village walks, wildlife spotting, hiking trails, and more.

The hosts support Ladakhi traditional dry compost toilet and guests are expected to use the same. As far as the food is concerned, they serve local, Indian, continental, and Japanese.

Jimmy’s Guest House is owned and managed by the congenial Jigmet, aka Jimmy, and his lovely parents. It’s one of those homestays where you actually feel like being at home. They property stands as a fine specimen of traditional Ladakhi architecture. The rooms here are rustic, cosy, and as spacious as they come.

Special care is given to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the homestay. They have a 24-hour supply of hot running water. They also rent out bikes. The property also features a beautiful flower and vegetable garden.

The cafe here serves amazing continental fare. You’d love lolling around in the hangout area, which has been decked up very aesthetically. The best part about staying at Jimmy’s is that you can also cook your own meals.

Barely 20 minutes from the main bazaar, this homestay is snuggled in the midst of poplar and barley fields in the Changspa village. The homestay is ideal for discerning traveler, who are always on the lookout for solitary experiences. Rabsal House is ideal for solo travellers, women-only groups, couples, and small families.

On offer here are 5 bedrooms, that are inspired from the Zanskar, Changthang, Dokyul, Nubra,  and Sham regions of Ladakh. All rooms are situated on the first floor of the homestay and each one of them offers lovely views of mountains, orchards, and surrounding locales.

Aptly named the Ladakh View Homestay, this pristine home provides incredible views of Ladakh’s rugged terrain. It is located near the Leh Palace and offers elegantly-furnished deluxe rooms and suites.

The homestay is run by Vilayat, who is helpful and easily approachable. The rooms here are spacious and well-organised. The homestay deserves extra browny points for its polite staff and sumptuous meals.

They will help you with taxis and travel tips. Free Wi-Fi and parking are available. The property is within a walking distance of the Leh bus stand.
