One of the most-loved homestays in Leh, Tukchu Homestay is run by the warm and hospitable Mr. Tashi and Mrs. Skarma Gyaltsen. The couple have renovated their 100-year-old ancestral home into a luxurious homestay. The bright and spacious rooms here offer incredible views of the apricot-dotted mountains of Leh.

The dining hall features traditional floor seating with attractive traditional tables. The pet-friendly homestay is located right below the Shanti Stupa. The hosts will also help you with taxis and route maps. Mr. Tashi has a great collection of books that you can read in the cosy and beautiful reading corner.

He’ll also enrich you with talks about the local history, culture, and traditions. Be ready to be welcomed by your hosts with a cup of hot ginger tea when you come back from a tiring day of sightseeing in Leh.

Gangba Homestay

This popular luxury guest house in Leh offers well-furnished rooms that come with all modern comforts and conveniences. The family-run lodging is located a short 10-minute walk from the main market.

When here, expect absolute peace as you wake up to the mesmerizing views of the Stok Kangri, the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Zazkar Mountains. Shel Ladakh

If you wish to stay away from the touristy hustle and bustle of Leh, this newly-opened homestay comes highly recommended. Nestled in the peaceful Shey village, a half and hour drive from Leh airport, Shel Homestay is a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary.

It is managed by photographer Hajra Ahmad, who comes with a lot of travel and wildlife experience. The beautiful homestay has two double  bedrooms and one twin bedroom. It sprawls across 15,000 sqft. The homestay overlooks lush grasslands, the stunning Himalayas, and the gurgling Indus River.

The Shey, Thiksey, and Matho monasteries are also visible from the property. Meals at Shey are superlative. From local delicacies like thukpas and skieu to evergreen north Indian fare like poha and briyani, they serve it all. Do try their chef’s special pepper chicken.

Namra Villa

The quaint Namra Villa is one of the most sought-after luxury homestays in Leh. The property is a sheer delight for nature lovers. Treat your eyes with colourful native plants, trees, flowers, birds, and butterflies that thrive on Poplar and Willow trees.

If one of the reasons for your Leh trip is stargazing at night, we’d recommend a stay at Nyamshan House. Sequestered in the quaint Stok village, 17km from Leh, this family-run Eco homestay is all things blissful. The property was traditionally built in the 1960s. It took nine years to renovate it and has been running as a homestay since 2011.

The homestay introduces you to life in a typical Ladakhi village. From here, you can visit popular tourist spots like Stok Village, Great Buddha Statue, and Stok Monastery to name a few. When here, spend your time taking blissful village walks, wildlife spotting, hiking trails, and more.

The hosts support Ladakhi traditional dry compost toilet and guests are expected to use the same. As far as the food is concerned, they serve local, Indian, continental, and Japanese.

Jimmy's Homestay

Jimmy’s Guest House is owned and managed by the congenial Jigmet, aka Jimmy, and his lovely parents. It’s one of those homestays where you actually feel like being at home. They property stands as a fine specimen of traditional Ladakhi architecture. The rooms here are rustic, cosy, and as spacious as they come.

Special care is given to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the homestay. They have a 24-hour supply of hot running water. They also rent out bikes. The property also features a beautiful flower and vegetable garden.

Barely 20 minutes from the main bazaar, this homestay is snuggled in the midst of poplar and barley fields in the Changspa village.
