India is an incredible land. From the classic Himalayan hill stations and the sandy Konkan beaches to the heritage of Rajasthan and the backwaters of Kerala, our beautiful country has lovely surprises for the seasoned traveller. What also makes travelling across this ancient, vast, varied, and magnificent country are the amazing hotels that each of its states is home to.

We have heritage properties, we have upmarket five-star hotels with world-class infrastructures, we have wildlife lodges and jungle camps, and we have gorgeous nature retreats too. And then of course are our government-run guesthouses and hotels that come with their own unmatched old-world charm.

Every state in India has a dedicated tourism department that is responsible for working toward the development of the travel and tourism sector of the state. And every tourism department has its own tourism development corporations. For instance, Rajasthan has Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation or Goa has the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, and so on.

These tourism bodies have built some amazing properties at popular tourist destinations in India. These properties include government-run guest houses, rest houses, circuit houses, lodges, hotels, and resorts. While these properties are a great choice for state and central government employees, they also offer comfortable accommodations for the common Indian traveller. The best part about such properties is their affordable tariff.

In this listicle, we have tried to feature some of the best and most-popular government guest houses in India. From the untouched valleys of Kumaon and Kashmir to the colonial charm of Goa, these properties are located in some of the most popular tourist attractions of the country.

Here’s a list of government guest houses and hotels in India that promise a truly memorable stay for you and your loved ones.
