Surrounded by lush mangroves and emerald lagoons, Rosewood Mayakoba is one of the best resorts in Mexico. Over the past couple of years, the luxury beach hotel in Mexico has only gotten better with the addition of kitted-out Wellness Suites; the debut of an extravagant Founder’s Villa; and the opening of Zapote Bar, a beautiful space that concocts exceptional cocktails with agave-based spirits.

And earlier this month, the resort quietly launched La Isla Secreta, which translates to “the secret island.” This secluded venue is an adults-only lounge located on a private island in an undisclosed location, hence its name.

This bohemian retreat is decorated with poufs upholstered in artisanal Yucatán textiles, woven rugs, macramé details, and hanging plants, while flickering candlelight and soft music set the tone for an elegant ambience. There’s no formal menu, but Joshua Monaghan, the resort’s director of mixology, has created several prohibition-style cocktails to match the lounge’s speakeasy vibes.

That said, Monaghan tells Travel + Leisure that La Isla Secreta is also meant to “shine [a] light on under-the-radar Mexican spirits.” Guests will find that the apothecary-style bar is stocked with bottles distilled in the country, including small-batch agave spirits, Katún gin from Yucatán, Rêves de Whisky from Baja California, and Ron Libertad rum from Chiapas, alongside Mexican wines and craft beers.
