Delhi, This Way For A Long Drive And A Dinner Date!

While the drive to Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort sets the mood for a getaway, a meal at one of its restaurants, Paatra, makes for a special dinner date. We’re telling by experience. By Rashima Nagpal

There was no way I was taking the route from Gurgaon to Noida all by myself. So I pleaded a dear friend to join along. In little less than two hours, we arrived at Jaypee Greens Golf Spa & Resort. A tasteful welcome appealed to the senses vis-a-vis the cab ride through the capital. The pleasing aesthetic was not limited to the first impression; it followed us through the hallway of the resort, with motifs largely attributed to Zen, and led us into Paatra—the destination for the evening.

Without much ado, we ordered some starters—mattarwali tikki and malai broccoli to be precise. My friend, who is a fan of yogurts, cherished the strawberry smoothie, while I paid attention to the details of the restaurant. I found the decor nice and elegant; a colour palette of beige and brown added a warmth to the space and elements such as jali-work and diyas contributed to the theme of this Indian specialty restaurant. One of the walls came with huge windows that looked out to the sprawling gardens at the resort. Paatra also had a private space with a dining table laid out with cutlery inspired by the royal Mughals; it’s fit for an extravagant sit-down dinner with up to eight people.

The dishes too, come with a royal flavour–think the richness of either cream or butter or  ghee incorporated into almost every thing on the menu. Do not expect your average North-Indian cuisine here; recipes from North-West Frontier Province influence the indulgent plates at Paatra. From the bhunee chaat and surkh paneer to aloo hing hara dhaniya and more, each dish is served to impress. Come with a good appetite, and you won’t be disappointed. If you feel like you’ve eaten too much, take a stroll around the resort. Away from the noise of the city, the property enjoys a solitude of its own.
