Review:
This four-room homestay located in the heart of Jaipur, in Civil Lines, is cozily tucked away in one of the wings of the grand Barwara House that is over 75 years old—where the royal family still resides boasting a legacy that is centuries’ old and known to once govern the estate of Chauth ka Barwara—Sawai Madhopur. The entrance of The Royal Hermitage is humble, but as you step into the old mansion, you are cocooned in a world of luxury inspired by European Renaissance, very unlike any other old-world Rajasthani haveli one expects in the Pink City. The co-owner and the principal designer, Amyt Kumar, an ex-aviation professional, filmmaker and creative artist, has designed this passion project inspired by his love for Europe.
The four suites—innovatively called The Red Lion, The Green Antler, The Golden Elephant and The Blue Stallion, respectively—are decorated according to the specific colours and animal themes. From the furniture, upholstery, furnishings, and even lights and lamps, each room comes with a distinct character. For me, the choice of The Red Lion came easy as it’s the biggest space available. The common living space has a charm of its own and the glass high ceiling is the spot to watch out for. The Gothic heritage interiors, white and gold, and red and teal add vibrance to the space.
The F&B at The Royal Hermitage is average with simple dishes like dal, sabzi, rice, etc. However, being in the city centre, one has loads of options to order in from. Equipped with all the modern amenities you might need while travelling, the property also offers one way airport transfer upon request. One can also book city tour on prior appointment.
