With sustainability being the need of the hour, an upcoming floating hotel in Qatar will take its eco-consciousness to the next level by generating its own electricity, and collecting and reusing rainwater and food waste. Designed by the Turkish company Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS), the floating hotel will adopt the motto of minimum energy loss and zero waste. It will optimally utilise green technology, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint. Creating progressively innovative models, HAADS is currently working with teams of field experts, including architects and engineers, to furnish the project which was initiated in March 2020. Still, in its early stages, it is estimated to be completed by 2025.

The structure of the hotel will work as a dynamo, depending on water currents and wind turbines as it rotates, converting tidal energy into electricity. Its movement will be computer-operated, which will help control and maintain the position and direction of the ships, propellers and thrusters. The hotel will rotate continuously, but at a negligible pace, which will finish one complete rotation in 24 hours—and hence, ensuring guests don’t feel dizzy or uncomfortable.

Other eco-friendly practices will include the collection of rainwater through a vortex-shaped roof, the recycling of greywater and wastewater for maximum efficiency, and a system that will convert food waste into garden fertilisers. These schemes are being carefully constructed to cause little to no harm to the environment.

Needless to say, the fantastic getaway will not be compromised on luxury. With an area of over 35,000 square meters, the hotel will be accessible via helicopters or boats and will be connected to the mainland through a 140-degree floating pier. In addition to 152 rooms, the other facilities that will be offered here are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gym, a spa, and a mini-golf course.

Although it is coming up in Qatar, the hotel, after its completion, will be mobile, with the ability to perch itself anywhere with the right current.

There have been numerous floating hotels in the past, namely in the Republic of Panama, Tanzania, and Thailand. However, this project’s design and eco-conscious approach is expected to be revolutionary!
