For those of you who’ve already contracted COVID-19, the Brazilian islands of Fernando de Noronha are waiting to welcome you with open arms. Home to Baia do Sancho, said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the tourist destination will reopen to travellers who’ve already had the virus, from next week onwards.

“To land on the archipelago, the tourist will need to present the result of a positive PCR test that is at least 20 days old, or the result of the serological test showing the presence of antibodies against COVID-19,” said Guilherme Rocha, the state’s administrator (as reported by CNN).

The same was also announced by authorities on the archipelago’s official Instagram page, after the region that is home to 21 scenic volcanic islands was closed for tourists in the past five months, to curb the risk of transmission. “In this first phase, only tourists who have already had COVID-19 will be allowed to disembark,” read the caption on the post. Additionally, visitors will be required to pay an environmental conservation tax as well.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Fernando de Noronha, is a popular tourist destination in Brazil and is famed for its beaches, protected national marine park and its diverse ecosystem.
