London’s magic is as infectious in real life as it is onscreen. From the Tower Bridge to South Bank, Notting Hill to London’s Skyline, wandering around in the city is a non-stop flashback of movies, which have prominently featured or set in these iconic destinations. For a movie buff, there’s hardly a vacay that gets better than a ‘film tour’ of London. By Shubhanjana Das

1. Notting Hill

Starting with the most obvious, Notting Hill is set in the eponymous neighbourhood of London, shooting its popularity through the roof with Julia Robert and Hugh Grant sharing jaw-dropping chemistry on screen, which had us all crying ugly tears. For some, visiting Notting Hill is just setting rewind on the film over and over again. But if you’re in London, stroll down Portobello Road. Even though the famous blue door is just around the corner at 280 Westbourne Park road, we can’t ensure if bumping into a Hugh Grant is in the itinerary though.

2. Kings Cross Station

Well, if you’re a movie buff, we’re sure this is perhaps one of the first places you will head to when in London, but it’s still worth stating the obvious. Harry and Ron may have made their way through the 9 ¾ wall in the station but you might not. That’s why there is a trolley pushed halfway into the wall between platforms 4 and 5 which is a frequent visit for Potterheads from all over the world. There is a Harry Potter Shop as well, which is built to replicate Ollivander’s Wand Shop from the series.

3. London’s Skyline

It is truly hard to beat the gorgeously picturesque and stunning skyline of this city, which never fails to surprise. And, what is striking in real life gets even more striking onscreen. The London Skyline has enjoyed quite the celebrity status in films like Skyfall wherein Daniel Craig’s character, James Bond, surveys the skyline from the top of the Department for Energy and Climate Change, punctuated by the Big Ben and the Ministry of Defence.

4. Somerset House

When Ichabod Crane, played by Johnny Depp in 1999’s Sleepy Hollows, returns to New York, after his confrontation with a murderous headless horseman, it is actually London’s Somerset House on the Strand that we see onscreen. The admission to this spot is free where James Bond’s Golden Eye was also shot by transforming it into a St Petersburg Square. It also hosts events and concerts throughout the year and apart from being recreated in both the films, making it an interesting location to see in reality.
