The foundation of the EU is commemorated every year on May 9, to reiterate its values of peace, solidarity, and unity of European nations. As per reports, Andrea Matteo Fontana, the Ambassador of the European Union and the EU delegation to the UAE were delighted at the token of friendship. They also expressed gratitude for the gesture, as through these difficult times it is not possible for people to meet and celebrate the historic day together.

This year marked the 70th anniversary of the ‘Schuman declaration’ when the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman had first spelt out his vision for a united Europe. The treaty was signed a year later, the date when the proposal was first expressed in 1950, is today celebrated as Europe Day. The EU has time and again given aid to countries across the world when they have faced a crisis. It is also the largest contributor to climate finance and donor of development aid.
