#DiscoverTheUndiscovered: Harihareshwar’s sun-kissed beaches and calming breeze make for a perfect getaway away from the city’s chaos. If you are looking for some peace and quiet at a beach, mixed with adventurous experiences then include Harihareshwar in your itinerary. By Shreya Kachroo

Clear skies and calm secluded beaches greet you as you set foot in Harihareshwar. An evergreen place that can be visited at any time of the year, this small town in Raigad, Maharashtra is blessed with a picturesque combination of beaches and hills. Surrounded by three hills—Harihareshwar, Harshinachal and Pushpadri—the town’s unmatched serenity is a once-in-a-lifetime immersive experience.

What to see?

Two of the most prominent, must-visit places here are the Harihareshwar beach and the Kalbhairav temple. According to local legends, the temple is believed to have been blessed by Lord Shiva. It is renowned for being one of the most ancient temples of the state. The rich architectural work surrounding the shrine will definitely stun you! The temple’s detailed craftsmanship and unique stories behind each sculpture are known to leave people spellbound.

On the other hand, the white sands and clear waters of Harihareshwar beach look like a postcard. The fact that it is relatively unpopulated, paired with the town’s pleasant atmosphere makes this place, even more, attractive. Harihareshwar—along with Shrivardhan and Diveagar beach—are considered to be a dynamic trio of beaches that are ideal to lay back and enjoy your time away from a chockfull of crowd typical to such destinations.

Another beautiful surprise awaits at the Ganesh Gully. The three-feet narrow path between two rocky mountains surrounding Harihareshwar attracts nature lovers and Ganesha followers, alike. It is advisable to visit this spot during low tides as it is otherwise submerged under water.

If taking a dip in clear blue waters and soaking in the magnificent sights of the hills isn’t exhilarating enough for you, a variety of water sports like banana rides, parachute gliding, and boating will satiate your adventurous side. You can even opt for a horse ride along the shore!

When to visit?

Although the charm of this scenic town can be enjoyed throughout the year, visiting between September to December is recommended.

What to eat?

Seafood lovers can try home-cooked Konkan fare such as the popular Konkani Surmai. Word of caution for meat lovers: being a temple town, most of the hotels here serve only vegetarian food.

Where to stay?

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC)’s resort here, MTDC Resort – Harihareshwar is a popular accommodation option for travellers of all ages.
