One of the many perfect ways to end the year is to plan your trips beforehand. At least that’s how we are dealing with the shock of a decade ending already! But, on the brighter side, that means more opportunities to travel. Before you plan your Christmas and New Year celebrations, here’s a list of destinations in India that will help you fix your travel plans in December. By Shubhanjana Das
1. Tarkali, Maharashtra
Tarkali is a beautiful beach destination in Maharshtra offering equal opportunities to sit back and relax as well as for going around exploring. It is the only destination offering scuba diving in Maharashtra and has an abundance of the old school Malvan food.
Distance from Mumbai: 276 KM
2. Kalimpong, West Bengal
Kalimpong is one of those underrated mountain destinations in West Bengal that has been overshadowed by the more bustling and popular Darjeeling. If you want some more peace and a lot less traffic and crowd, Kalimpong is the place to be at. There are a number of cute homestays and colonial-era buildings to admire. A weekend is the perfect time to explore this little hamlet.
Distance from Kolkata: 624 Km
3. Badami, Karnataka
For the lovers of history and the tales of the bygone era, Badami is one of the best off-beat destinations to explore, especially during December because of the pleasant weather down South. The ochre-hued ruins from the reign of the Badami Chalukyas (540 to 757 AD) are worth a visit. The rock-cut temples are an outstanding testament of their legendary past.
Distance from Hyderabad: 431 KM
4. Chaukori, Uttarakhand
Located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, Chaukori is definitely less heard of, but is apt for a weekend trip from Delhi. This place sits in the lap of the Western Himalayan and by that very virtue is rich with diverse flora and fauna. There are also a number of old temples to explore in the region. Besides, there’s not much else to do, which, if you ask us, is the perfect weekend plan in a place like Chaukori.
