Handled by the Mumbai Port Trust, the ropeway is all set to come up between Sewri in Mumbai’s east coast and Elephanta Island in Raigad district. Stretching over eight kilometres, this will be India’s longest ropeway and the total journey time will most likely be just 40 minutes.

According to reports, the ropeway will have 30 seater cable cars and provide a convenient journey for passengers. Around eight to 11 towers will be erected in the middle of the sea measuring 50 meters to 150 meters in height.

Elephanta Caves is a UNESCO World Heritage site on an island close to Mumbai. It attracts lakhs of visitors every year. Presently, it takes 60 minutes for people to reach the caves from Mumbai on cruises. Thanks to the ropeway, soon tourists will be able to reach the famous caves in a mere 40 minutes time span. Additionally, the journey will offer scenic views of the ocean.

Magnificent views of mudflats, especially during the flamingo season, mangroves, and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link to the north, are some of the other wonderful views that one can expect to see while on this ropeway trip.

Along with the ropeway, the project will also include a city tower with a viewing gallery, suspended restaurants with a clear glass base, an entertainment deck, and more. The best part is that the ropeway will be open to all ages.

Currently, India’s longest ropeway is situated at the beautiful hill station of Auli, a ski resort town that is surrounded by mountains and dense forests. The ropeway stretches across 4 kilometres and runs from Joshimath to Auli.
