Whilst you may not be able to go on long walks, enjoy dinners at your favourite restaurant or go to a food festival in New York City anytime soon, this summer will be full of entertainment albeit with a few changes. In the current COVID-19 world, you can still go out and indulge in alfresco dining or take part in outdoor events. All thanks to the revival of the drive-in trend, New Yorkers can drive their cars and sit back to watch movies whilst following social distancing rules.

The iconic Yankee Stadium in Concourse, Bronx is all set to be transformed into a drive-in movie and concert venue. The new festival-like event known as Uptown Drive-In will be held at the Yankee Stadium parking lot. Organised by MASC Hospitality Group, the New York-based company behind the Bronx Night Market, and the Bronx Beer Festival, the event will take place in July.

Throughout the weekend, people can drive their vehicles and enjoy either a movie or a live performance by local artists. In an interview with Time Out New York, Marco Shalma of MASC Hospitality Group said that the stage will be lifted so that attendees can watch the performances from their car. The MC, performers, and hosts will also stream from a PA system broadcasted to visitor’s car radios.

Popular city street vendors will prepare food for attendees via the festival’s car side dinner service. On-site interactive games, raffles, and giveaways will also be included in the carnival-like experience.

The dates and ticket prices have not been officially announced. However, some tickets will be reserved for frontline workers such as nurses, doctors, police officers, and others for free. For New Yorkers who are interested to relive a relic of the 1950s, a waiting list to join the drive-in experience is now available.
