In response to the recent spell of inclement weather in New Delhi, Delhi Airport has released a weather advisory, urging passengers to contact their respective airlines before embarking on their journeys. The city experienced a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius, leading to dense fog and low visibility that disrupted both road traffic and flight operations. IndiGo, one of the affected airlines, faced flight cancellations and delays on January 14, 2024. Despite keeping passengers informed across airports and taking necessary steps for their convenience, the frequent flight disruptions prompted Delhi Airport to issue an advisory for passengers to proactively check with their airlines.

Travellers are encouraged to monitor their flight status online and contact airline authorities for real-time updates. “Due to dense fog, flight operations at Delhi Airport may be affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” IndiGo Airlines posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The Indian Meteorological Department has also issued a ‘cold alert’ for parts of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh on Monday (January 15) and Tuesday (January 16). The alert has led to increased shelter requirements, with government-run homes providing warmth, blankets, beds, hot water, and food for those seeking refuge from the biting cold.
In response to the challenging conditions, the Delhi Education Department has advised schools to resume physical learning and emphasised a schedule between 9 am and 5 pm. Simultaneously, the air quality index (AQI) in New Delhi deteriorated to the severe category on January 14, 2024, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Consequently, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is reimposing restrictions in the National Capital Region (NCR) under Stage III of the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), effective immediately.
To combat declining air quality, the Delhi Transport Department has implemented a ban on construction activities and the usage of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles. Stay informed and take necessary precautions as Delhi navigates through this weather-related challenge and air quality concerns.
