Tourism authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have kickstarted their new border tourism initiative by launching a one-of-its-kind luxury bus service in the region on the 41st World Tourism Day while following strict COVID-19 guidelines.

The luxury bus service in Jammu and Kashmir was launched with the slogan ‘Chalo Suchetgarh Border’ (let’s safeguard the border). The Garud Seva open-roof bus service will operate from Jammu at IST 10:30 am daily. The bus will go towards the Suchetgarh border for sightseeing and also stop at other destinations en route like the Gharana wetland to spot migratory birds who arrive there from around the world.

The 27-seater bus was flagged off from the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) to Suchetgarh by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, and Director Tourism Jammu, Raj Kumar Katoch (as reported on Livemint).

According to the spokesperson, Katoch addressed the gathering and explained the importance of tourism in the region and discussed ways of reviving it in light of the ongoing pandemic and the need to preserving and widening the heritage and culture of the rural areas in the region.

Apart from launching the luxury bus service in Jammu and Kashmir, they also celebrated the day by organising a Shikara race, canoeing and kayaking. Over 50 boatmen were seen participating in the Shikara race at the Dal Lake, which was organised by the Kashmir Directorate of Tourism.
