Earlier on Tuesday, the Mumbai Metro confirmed on its official twitter handle that it will resume services for public from October 19. “@MumMetro is thankful to Government of Maharashtra for allowing metro operations. We have already initiated safety inspections and trial runs, and are set to restart passenger operations from Monday, 19th October 2020, 8:30 am. #MissionBeginAgain #HaveANiceDay,” it said.

The announcement came in light of Maharashtra government’s recent decision to allow resumption of metro services as a part of its ‘Mission Begin Again’, under which Nagpur has also been permitted to do the same.

In addition to this, the government has also exempted domestic passengers landing at Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, and Aurangabad airports, from the need to get stamped on their hands, upon arrival, but has kept COVID-19 checks mandatory. However, those travelling by train don’t need to go through any of this, but are required to maintain all other COVID-19 protocols.

Some of the other relaxations as per the new guidelines include, reopening of both private as well as government-run libraries, businesses, local exhibitions, bazaars, and resumption of Mumbai AC local trains.

While educational institutions, such as, schools, colleges, coaching centres, will remain shut, research scholars, post-graduates and those pursuing doctorates in science and technology streams can access laboratories for their studies. Moreover, markets and stores can now operate for additional two hours till 9:00 PM. However, the status of religious places is still unknown.
