Now Fly From New York To London In Just 90 Minutes!

Marking another notable breakthrough in the field of technology, an Atlanta-based aerospace start-up company Hermeus, has revealed its plan to assemble a hypersonic jet that can catapult passengers from New York to London at a speed, which is five times faster than that of sound. Yes, you heard us right! By Ishani Singh

Hermeus hypersonic jet aims to fly from the bustling streets of New York to the flourishing suburbs of London in a surprising time period of just 90 minutes or less. The journey will serve to lessen the earlier running time of a seven-hour flight journey between the two cities to a more comfortable and time-friendly travel. The US-based firm has planned to equip the jet with a propulsion technology that that would enable it to fly at a speed of up to 6,115 kmph. It also said in a statement that the aircraft would take to the skies within a decade, making it the second fastest jet after the retired Concorde, which flew for 27 years after its launch in 1976. The Concorde jet took three-and-a-half hours to commute between New York and London.

“We’ve set out on a journey to revolutionise the global transportation infrastructure, bringing it from the equivalent of dial-up into the broadband era, by radically increasing the speed of travel over long distances,” AJ Piplica, Hermeus’ co-founder and CEO of Hermeus said in a statement on the company’s website.

According to the news website Ars Technica, the mechanical aspects of the hypersonic giant include primary materials such as titanium while the propulsion system will be powered by a turbine-based, combined cycle engine. The aircraft will travel at a speed of Mach-5, five times faster than Mach-1, the speed of sound, and will feature a cruising speed of 3,300 miles per hour.

Tickets for a one-way journey on the jet between New York and London would cost $3,000.
