Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, the world decided to throw another quirky surprise at us. Plants, yes plants, are all set to be the audience for a Spanish Opera House’s first performance post the lockdown. By Amitha Ameen

Barcelona’s Liceu opera house’s special guests will not be required to maintain social distancing, wear masks or gloves. Plants will be the first audience at this opera house post lockdown, and all they will be needing is a well-fitting pot and some water to keep them hydrated as they enjoy being serenaded by Puccini’s Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums).

Liceu’s artistic director, Víctor García de Gomar said the concert is to help people understand the current state of us, humans, under lockdown, and how to reflect on how we have become “an audience deprived of the possibility of being an audience.”

The Catalan venue announced that the concert will be held for 2,292 plants that would be able to witness the beautiful performance, knowing very well that such an announcement would send their message of reopening far and wide and catch people’s attention.

Additionally, the opera house announced that post the performance they will be donating all of the plants to healthcare workers as a thank you to their efforts in these past few months.
