After Singapore and Abu Dhabi, now Thailand too has made it mandatory for tourists to wear a digital wristband during their stay in the country. The wristband will measure the wearer’s body temperature and also allow authorities to track and monitor the health of travellers. At a certain reading, the wristband will automatically alert nearby health authorities.

Called the ‘Smart Band’, the mandatory tracking device is just one of the steps that tourists need to adhere to apart from going through the 14-day quarantine at a government-approved hotel or hospital. In addition to this, a special tourist visa is also available for travellers arriving from ‘low-risk’ countries at 2,000 baht (INR 4,790).

Thailand had closed its borders to international tourists from March onwards following the Coronavirus outbreak. The country finally reopened its borders in the first week of October in a bid to revive its tourism sector that took a serious hit.
Recently, the country has even introduced a new ‘Pay to Stay‘ visa programme as a way of luring international travellers. Thailand currently has 3,800 COVID-19 positive cases, out of which 3,605 patients have recovered (as on November 3, 2020).
