Located in the Pacific Ocean to the northeast side of the Australian continent, Nauru is the perfect Island destination for your vacation this summer. Being the world’s smallest independent republic, it is also one of the most alluring destinations of 2019. By Divyansh Mehta

Being one of the smallest countries in the world, the island has an abundance of interesting history and landscapes for you to explore.

Yaren

The best way to start your vacation is by knowing the history of this island, which can be done by viewing the relics from World War II scattered around this island. Hiking in Yaren would give you an opportunity to spot the remains of guns and Japanese bunkers from the World War II era. Apart from the remains of WWII, Moqua Caves are also a must-see in Yaren.

Local Sports

Who would ever imagine that a country which can be covered around in less than an hour has its own football league? Well, Australian football, which is also the national sport of Nauru has a huge fan base in this country. It has a 12-team league where matches are played every Saturday at the Linkbelt Oval Sports Field.

Anibare Bay

The most beautiful beach on this island that stretches upto two kilometres — this beach is famous for its corals, which were formed by volcanic eruptions that underline the island. It is one of the most popular attractions of Nauru.

Command Ridge

Famous for being the highest point of Nauru where you will be able to see the entire country, it is also the same point where the Japanese took charge to guard over the country during World War II.

Diving and Snorkelling

These are common activities in Nauru. The best way to enjoy the waters of Pacific Ocean is to scuba dive or snorkel and that’s what makes these activities most popular with the tourists.

Getting There

Nauru Airlines is the only carrier, which flies from Brisbane (Australia) to the Nauru International Airport, and flights are scheduled throughout the year. There are no direct flights from India, though.
