Like most of the world, the UAE also has a travel restriction in place since mid-March. This restriction, which was set in motion due to the global Coronavirus outbreak, has all of UAE’s borders sealed. While a selected few repatriation flights are operating currently, Emirates has also started operating flights to several destinations from May 21 onwards. It plans to resume services to more destination in the coming days.

However, a new document released by Dubai Tourism reveals that the country is planning to reopen its borders soon. A confirmed date for the same has not been declared yet.

“Authorities are preparing for a full reopening of UAE’s borders, subject to the removal of travel restrictions by implementing a series of strategic measures in conjunction with their federal counterparts designed to ensure the virus does not enter the emirate through its sea and land ports,” read Dubai Tourism Trade Toolkit, as reported on aviationbusinessme.com.

“Travellers will be welcomed to Dubai in a safe and secure environment ensuring seamless use of contactless technologies and advanced equipment for screening incoming and outgoing passengers to safeguard the city from any spread of the infection. World-class cleaning and disinfection processes across all facilities, attractions, and assets to ensure a risk-free experience for tourists in the city are being implemented,” it further read.

It is noteworthy here that the UAE is not the first country to reopen its borders after being under a lockdown for so long. Many other destinations, museums, tourist spots, restaurants, and beaches have also reopened in the recent past. And, many others are planning to reopen soon.

Some of these include Jamaica, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Italy (museums), Hong Kong, Turks and Caicos Islands, France (cafes, bars, and restaurants), Thailand, Puerto Rico, Jerusalem, Madeira, Tel Aviv (restaurants, cafes, bars, and beaches), Universal Studios Orlando, Berlin (nightclubs), Athens (Acropolis), Shanghai Disneyland Park, New Jersey’s beaches, Italy’s beaches, Sydney’s Bondi beach, and many more.
