The city to turn into a haven of all things spirits at the Delhi Cocktail Week this month.
With the second edition of the Delhi Cocktail Week coming up in February, the capital will touch another high. Scheduled to happen from February 4th-11th, over 30 bars and restaurants in the national capital region are set to play host to an audience with an array of award-winning cocktails by some of the finest mixologists. Ever since the first Cocktail Week that Archit Singhal launched in Delhi last year, a row of successors have changed the drinking-game in the country like never before. Keeping the standard intact, the gala is set to floor enthusiasts. While you juggle between how to make the most of this week-long festival, we get to you the best offerings by the best in town. Because, when you’re spending those extra bucks, you’d rather spend them at something that’s worth it.
Here, we’ve picked five of the hottest of them all:
1. Old Fashioned
A classic with a scotch base, Cocktails & Dreams, Speakeasy serves this absolute favourite of many. The charms of a speakeasy in combination with this classic especially are known to have bowled over even the top-most cocktail connoisseurs.
2. Kala Amritsari
EkBar at Defence Colony is one pretty bar that is better known for its cocktails infused with Indian flavours, like this Kala Amritsari. A vodka base in a concoction of homemade plum syrup, lime, and egg white makes for a nostalgic drink that might revive memories from childhood.
3. Mrs Don Draper
A blend of whiskey, fresh berries, lime juice, triple sec and ginger ale, Olive Bistro situated at the heart of Gurgaon, serves this super fresh cocktail. The aura here being lively mostly, we expect it to be livelier during the celebratory week.
4. Godfather
Go hunting for the Godfather at PCO (Pass Code Only) in the Vasant Vihar area. And we bet you’ll be delighted. The rather old-school interiors of this speakeasy compliment the range of cocktails they serve and Godfather is one of the classics.
5. The Golden Monk
Another classic in the list because an alcohol-lover can never be disappointed with one too many. This one’s made out of apple juice, bitter almond oil, Washington apple, and honey. And you’d exclusively find this at Qla in Mehrauli. Indeed, the place makes for that perfect lunch date, but with the Delhi Cocktail Week, one must not miss out on this gem of a drink.
To add to the fever of the festival, the week also includes some really interesting competitions. For instance, the Most Innovative Bartender Cocktail Competition at Qla which will see the best from across the city battle it out for the worthiest drink of them all. Also, Delhi Cocktail Week is to acknowledge the art of mixing and pouring by hosting master-classes conducted by celebrity mixologists such as Evgenya Prazdnik, Sabanina Olga, and Boris Ivanov among others. – Rashima Nagpal
“This Delhi Cocktail Week we’ve come up with a lot of winter oriented cocktails and the mixologists taking part in the festival is a special feature. Four years ago, having a cocktail was considered exotic, here in India. But with rapidly changing times, cocktails have become a part of people’s lifestyles. With this, the demand for quality- cocktails has increased and thereby the demand for qualified mixologists is increasing. So many people are wanting to intern with us and learn”.
