According to the geo-tag on the photo, it seems the actor is enjoying quality time at the picturesque Mammoth Lakes in California. Taking a cue from the superstar herself, this would be number one on our road trip list. A beautiful alpine retreat, Mammoth Lakes is ideally nestled between Yosemite National Park and the Nevada border. The name stands for the giant size of the mountains in the area and the numerous crystal clear mountain lakes in the region. From hiking and mountain biking to gulping beers and unwinding in a relaxing natural hot spring, the list of activities here is endless. And as for the route, a scenic drive through the cactus-studded landscape is part of the experience.
2. Highway 1

Now, this one is known to be one of the best road trips in the world. Popularly known as the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), this route takes you through the sunny beaches of California, the exquisite Big Sur and the Golden Gate Bridge to name a few highlights. The whole stretch of 1,055 kilometres will leave you filled with memories after crossing through a wide variety of landscapes and towns. If you are looking for a road trip that is more than a weekend getaway, we highly recommend PCH as it would take you around two weeks to comfortably drive through and complete your stretch.
3. Palm Springs

We have all heard of this one, mostly from Hollywood stars in the 50s. The ride begins to get exciting once you inch closer to the desert; the place is home to the ever-popular Joshua Tree National Park that is perfect for hikes or camping. You can also head to Salvation Mountain a colourful artist installation in the middle of the desert that will provide for perfect photo opportunities. Dip into a natural hot spring, explore the surrounding or enjoy the sun in Palm Springs that shines for literally 360 days a year. No, we are not kidding!
4. Ojai

Ojai usually features at the top of the list for a quick day trip or weekend getaway. It lies in a small valley close to Santa Barbara, and once you arrive you will be delighted to be surrounded by stunning mountains and refreshing country air. One can argue that the ride between Los Angeles and Ojai is one of the more scenic routes, but if you want to get to your destination early then you can drive through Ventura County, which will save you 30 minutes of time.
5. Orange County

Disneyland, need we say more? While the prospect of heading to a theme park may be on our wishlist, Orange County features on this list for much more than just that. It has plenty of beautiful beaches, markets and beachfront cinema to name a few. This place is perfect for those looking for slightly warmer weather. And, if you, like us, grew up watching the popular TV Series OC, you know there are plenty of reasons that make this one of our favourite places to head to.
