Singapore Airlines is set to resume the Airbus A380 Superjumbo aircraft’s functions to India starting March 14, 2022. The flight services will resume between the Singapore-Mumbai route, and later, the A380 jet will also be used for the Delhi-Singapore route, reports Mint.

This move comes right before the Airlines begins converting all flights from India into Virtual Travel Lane (VTL) services. Times of India quoted a representative from Singapore Airlines as saying, “While existing daily VTL flights will continue to operate from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, all of SIA India flights that arrive in Singapore from March 16, 2022 will progressively operate as VTL services. This includes SIA’s flights from Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Kolkata.”

Sy Yen Chen, the GM of Singapore Airlines, that this decision of converting all flights to VTL services will be a welcome development and a positive step towards quarantine-free travel to Singapore. Talking about the Airbus A380 aircraft’s launch in India, the Singapore Airlines GM added, “We are thrilled to be able to bring our iconic superjumbo back to India. We are optimistic that this, along with the expansion of Singapore’s VTL arrangement, will inspire even more confidence for international travel to and from India.”

The jumbo aircraft has 471 seats across four classes – six in Suites, 78 in Business Class, 44 Premium Economy Class seats and 343 Economy Class seats, reports Mint. Seeing that the footfall between India and Singapore has always been high, this move, along with all daily flights being VTLs, comes as a positive step towards reopening convenient and easy travel between the two nations.
