State-wise lockdowns in India: the fight against the raging pandemic continues as the second wave of Coronavirus sweeps the nation. To combat this, many states and union territories have imposed various degrees of lockdowns and restrictions. Here’s the full state-wise list. By Bayar Jain

State-wise Lockdowns in India

As the nation continues its fight against the ongoing second wave of Coronavirus, various state and union territory (UT) governments have released fresh restrictions and guidelines to curd its spread. Keeping a tab of these preventive measures can be cumbersome. And thus, here’s a state-wise list of lockdowns and restrictions in force right now.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

  • The UT’s official website notes that a night curfew from 10:00 pm to 05:00 am has been imposed on the islands till April 30. During this period, all movements are prohibited.
  • Health and family welfare officials, police, home guards, civil defence, fire and district services, administration, accounts office, electricity, water, sanitation, public transport, disaster management and related staff are exempted.
  • Private medical personnel such as doctors, nursing staff, paramedicals, and other hospitals services are exempted too.
  • Persons engaged for essential activities are exempted too.

Assam

  • According to a report by NDTVprimary schools and classes in districts that report more than a 100 active cases will remain closed.

Bihar

  • As per ANI, the state government has imposed a night curfew from 09:00 pm to 05:00 am. This curfew is in motion till May 15, 2021.
  • However, all shops selling fruits, vegetables, eggs, and meat will shut at 06:00 pm; while restaurants and dhabas will remain open for home deliveries and take-aways till 09:00 pm.
  • Schools, colleges, educational institutions, religious places, cinemas, gyms, clubs, and parks will remain closed till May 15, 2021.
  • Only 25 people are allowed to gather for last rites, while for weddings the number is capped at 100.

Chhattisgarh

  • Raipur has been declared a containment zone till April 26, notes ANIDuring this period, all borders of the district will remain sealed; and all private banks, offices, and wine shops will remain closed. Religious, cultural, and tourist spots are shut too.
  • Petrol pumps, medical shops, hospitals, clinics, and veterinary clinics are exempted.

Delhi

  • As per a tweet by the Chief Minister of Delhi, a week-long lockdown till April 26 has been imposed in the city. This restricts all movements, barring those for medical reasons or essentials.
  • Sanitation workers, defence—both civil and home, public transport, official bodies and personnel of the UT, judicial staff, media (electronic and print), students appearing for examinations, and emergency staff are exempted.
  • Pregnant women, those requiring emergency medical assistance, and those heading to get inoculated against the COVID-19 virus, too, are exempted.
  • Inter-state movement for essentials is free too, and no e-pass is required for the same.
  • Personal establishments that cater to essentials such as fruit vendors, banks, petrol pumps, etc. can function as normal. However, an e-pass for the same must be availed unless movement is via foot.
  • Religious places, though open, cannot be visited.
  • Public transport—including metros—to function at half capacity.
  • Gatherings for marriages is restricted to 50, while for last rites it stands at 20.
  • All cinema halls, pubs, shopping centres, weekly markets, gyms, educational institutes, salons, spas, and public parks to remain closed. Construction is allowed, provided workers live onsite.
  • Congregations and gatherings are prohibited.

Gujarat

  • ANI notes that a night curfew has been imposed in 20 cities, namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Morbi, Patan, Godhra, Dahod, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Bharuch, Surendranagar, and Amreli. This curfew is in motion till April 30 between 08:00 pm to 06:00 am.
  •  Government offices to remain closed during this period, whereas gatherings for weddings is curbed at 100.

Haryana

  • In Haryana, a night curfew from 09:00 pm to 05:00 am is in motion, states ANIDuring this time, all non-essential movement is curtailed.

Jammu and Kashmir

  • In lieu of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the UT, the government has imposed a night curfew, reports ANIThis curfew is applicable from 10:00 pm to 06:00 am across all municipal and urban areas.
  • Capacity aboard all public transport is capped at 50 per cent.
  • Only half the shops in bazaars, market places, and malls are allowed to remain open on a rotational basis.

Karnataka

  • ANI reports that the state government has introduced a night curfew in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Tumkuru and Udupi from 10:00 pm to 05:00 am. Essential travel, however, is exempted.
  • Religious and social gatherings are prohibited.

Kerala

  • Kerala is under a two-week-long night curfew, starting April 20, states ANIThe timings for the same are from 09:00 pm to 05:00 am.
  • Essential services, good transportations, and public transportation is exempted.
  • Malls and cinema halls are allowed to function till 07:30 pm.
  • Online classes, gatherings, and meetings should be enforced wherever possible.

Madhya Pradesh

  • A night curfew from 10:00 pm to 06:00 am has been introduced in Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur, state reports by ANIDuring this period only shops selling essential commodities are allowed to ply.
  • Non-essential gatherings are to be avoided.

Maharashtra

  • Maharashtra has imposed state-wide restrictions to curtail the spread, according to a tweet by the state government. This includes a night curfew from 08:00 pm to 07:00 am and strict prohibition of movement.
  • Essential services and professionals like medical, healthcare, public transport, food vendors, pre-monsoon authorities, agriculture-related, sanitation, accredited media, petrol pumps, etc. are exempted.
  • Exempted offices such as government, insurance, banking, etc. can function at 50 per cent capacity.
  • Private transport can ply only in case of medical emergencies or for essential services.
  • In-restaurant dining prohibited. Dining within hotel is allowed only for in-house guests. Home deliveries are allowed, but only till the entrance of societies.
  • Gatherings for last rites is curbed at 20, whereas for weddings it is 25.
  • E-commerce deliveries is allowed only for essentials.
  • Social, cultural, and religious gatherings are prohibited.
  • All cinema halls, pubs, shopping centres, weekly markets, gyms, educational institutes, salons, spas, and public parks to remain closed. Construction is allowed, provided workers live onsite.

Odisha

  • A night curfew from 06:00 pm to 05:00 am has been introduced in Sundergarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur, states ANIAdditionally, a weekend lockdown has also been imposed in urban areas.
  • Inter-state bus services is suspended too, whereas intra-state buses can ply with limited capacity.
  • Government offices can function at half capacity, whereas only 50 guests can gather for weddings.
  • No religious, social, or political gatherings are allowed.

Punjab

  • Punjab has introduced a night curfew from 08:00 pm to 05:00 am, states ANI.
  • Cinema halls, bars, gyms, malls, spas, coaching centres, and sport complexes to remain shut till April 30.
  • Weekly markets are also discontinued for now.
  • Only 50 guests can attend weddings and funerals. If another 10 need to be invited, then prior permission must be taken from District Administrations.

Rajasthan

  • ANI reports that a weekend curfew is in motion till April 30. During this period, only essentials will be allowed to remain open.
  • Public transport can function, but at a limited capacity.

Sikkim

  • Sikkim Express notes that a night curfew will be followed, starting 10:00 pm. During this period, restaurants, bars, pubs, and gyms will not be allowed.
  • Vehicular movement is also curtailed after 10:30 pm.

Tamil Nadu

  • Tamil Nadu has introduced a night curfew from 10:00 pm to 04:00 am, states ANIOn April 25, a Sunday curfew will be observed.
  • No private or public vehicular movement is allowed during this period.
  • Inter- and intra-state movement is also disallowed.

Telangana

  • ANI notes that a night curfew has been imposed till May 1. This curfew is in motion between 09:00 pm to 05:00 am.
  • All shops, firms, clinics, restaurants, etc. to close at 08:00 pm.
  • Essential movement can continue unrestricted.

Uttarakhand

  • A night curfew from 09:00 pm to 05:00 am has been imposed state-wide, states ANI
  • Dehradun district to observe weekend curfew starting April 18.

Uttar Pradesh

  • ANI reports that a weekend curfew has been imposed starting 08:00 pm on Friday till 07:00 am, Monday. Additionally, a night curfew is in place across districts.
  • Essential services can continue unrestricted.
