Following a lull in travelling owing to the ongoing pandemic, The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has conjured an innovative way to rekindle the lost romance. According to a report by CNN, the tourism board is partnering with dating app, Tinder, to offer packages curated for singles hoping to find a match. This ‘Single Journey’ initiative—as it is being called—is meant to boost domestic tourism in the nation.

For this, the official tourism body will reportedly plan nine itineraries throughout the country, ranging from tourist hotspots like Bangkok and Phuket; as well as lesser-explored gems like the Udon Thani – Loei circuit. Bangkok Post notes that this pilot programme will be spread throughout December and January, with the first leg kickstarting on December 20.

For the first itinerary, 100 singles embarking on the trip will reportedly cruise along the Chao Phraya River, tour the city, and gain expert advice and blessings from a Feng Shui expert. The Phuket leg of the project will reportedly include a beachside party and concert, while January’s Lopburi trip will include a train trip to Pa Sak Jolasid Dam.

Notably, such campaigns to boost domestic tourism in the country aren’t new. Earlier in November, the country’s flag carrier, Thai Airways, started flights to nowhere in an attempt to showcase Thailand’s Buddhist sites to passengers. The flight—which takes off and lands at Bangkok airport—reportedly flies over 99 sacred sites like Wat Arun, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Phra Samut Chedi, Wat Phra Boromma That Chaiya, Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, among others.
