NIDHI — The National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry — has been developed in association with the Quality Council of India (QCI), and another platform SAATHI — System for Assessment, Awareness & Training for Hospitality Industry — will help to streamline the process of shortlisting entries for NIDHI.

Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State, Tourism & Culture (I/C) tweeted saying, “NIDHI is a platform for all types of hotels, experiments, which will be a great source of information for the country and the world. @tourismgoi earlier had 1,600 hotels registered with it; after the discussion with stakeholders, this figure has reached 21,000.”

NIDHI and SAATHI, both will be launched on September 27 i.e. the World Tourism Day after a discussion with the states and other stakeholders of the industry.

The certification will be divided into three stages/components. These will be the initial stage of Self-Certification, the second stage of Capacity Building that will have training in terms of Standard Operating Procedures and other guidelines, and the third stage of Third-party Assessment after which certification will be issued.

The Indian hospitality industry has been one of the worst-hit sectors after aviation and tourism, due to complete lockdown amid the pandemic. However, as the country is slowly reopening and is now in the fourth phase of Unlock, the hotels and restaurants have also started welcoming guests with improved safety, security and social distancing measures in place.
