Virgin Voyages' New Ship, The Scarlet Lady, Is For Rockstars Of Every Kind

Let Richard Branson’s ship make your rock-and-roll-while-on-a-cruise dreams come true.

Here’s a confluence of icons you never saw coming: Sailor, meet Rockstar. On the home-turf of the former, Virgin Voyages has unveiled its first ship, The Scarlet Lady (named after one of Virgin Atlantic’s first planes), and the renderings of the RockStar suites are descriptive to a tee. Setting sail as an adults-only ship in 2020, the makers were inspired by the “historic vessels of the past that exuded charm and luxury.” Working hand-in-hand with Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio, a connection with the sea was combined with rockstar-dream details.

The suites are gilded with vanity tables that exude high levels of glam, while a barware kit drawer ensures you can get cocktail-crafty in the comfort of your own room.

The RockStar suites are further divided into apt categories: Massive, Fab, Posh and Gorgeous. The Massive actually comes with its own music room that’s stocked with guitars, an amp and a vinyl turntable. All of them have a “Peek-A-View” shower that gives you the option of taking in the sea while inside.

Oh, and add exclusive access to Richard’s Rooftop that sits on the top deck.

And the rockstar treatment isn’t limited to the interiors of the yacht: if you’re a ‘RockStar Sailor,’ you’ll be struck with VIP services right from the get-go, including private airport transfers, helicopter arrangements, luggage assistance and a private walk down the exclusive terminal pathway upon arrival. For the ‘divas’ of the rock-and-roll biz, there are even custom sheets on hand.

According to CNN, “it [the ship] will weigh about 110,000 gross tons and stretch 278 meters long and 38 meters wide. With 1,430 cabins, it will hold more than 2,770 passengers who will be serviced by 1,160 crew.” They also report that the cruise will host a tattoo and body piercing parlour, allowing you to make sure the experience leaves a permanent mark.
